Plantient

Plantient is an interactive installation where the bioelectrical signals of living plants control digital avatars performing contemporary dance in real time. Through tactile sensors attached to the plants, their physiological activity is translated into data that activates and modulates movement, generating an emergent more-than-human choreography.

Visitors are invited to engage directly with the plants by gently touching their leaves or stems. This contact alters the plants’ bioelectrical activity, which is immediately translated into changes in the avatars’ movement, rhythm, and intensity. Subtle gestures may produce slow, minimal motion, while more pronounced interaction can trigger dynamic and expressive sequences. In this way, the audience becomes an active participant in shaping the dance, not by controlling it directly, but by entering into a responsive relationship with the living organisms. Inspired by theories of vegetal agency, the project positions plants as creative agents rather than passive elements. The avatar, conceived as a “plant-cyborg,” embodies and amplifies these signals into a visible choreographic language.

Plantient creates a space of shared agency, where human touch, plant responsiveness, and artificial intelligence converge in a continuous process of co-creation.
